Behind the Lens: Capturing Berlin at Night
Berlin transforms after dark — neon reflections on wet cobblestones, long exposures of the Spree, and the quiet drama of empty streets. Here is how we approach night photography in the city.
Why Night Photography?
There is something uniquely honest about a city at night. The crowds thin, the light sources become deliberate, and every frame demands patience. At Ninetys.co, some of our most compelling work has come from sessions that started well after midnight.
Our Approach
We typically scout locations during the day to understand how ambient light will fall after sunset. Key considerations include light temperature, reflective surfaces, and the direction of traffic trails for long-exposure shots.
Gear and Settings
A sturdy tripod is non-negotiable. We shoot at ISO 100–400 to keep noise minimal, with apertures between f/8 and f/11 for maximum sharpness across the frame. Shutter speeds range from 10 seconds to several minutes depending on the desired effect.
